My Story

I have been a doctor for nearly 20 years and have held very senior leadership roles in the NHS over the last decade. Over that time, I have become increasingly frustrated with the standard NHS approach to supporting patients living with diabetes, obesity or related complications such as fatty liver disease. As an NHS GP I spend most of my time “firefighting”, trying to deal with the downstream complications caused by these conditions, rather than trying to identify and treat the root causes and to prevent ill health.

For the last 2 years I have also been the lead doctor for a healthcare service specialising in diabetes prevention, diabetes reversal and weight management. This has been an incredibly enjoyable and rewarding part of my career - for me, helping to set someone on the path to lifelong good health is far more rewarding than reactively treating illness. I have set up this service so that anyone who is interested in preventing or reversing diabetes, or just interested in improving their metabolic health and feeling better, can access the high quality personalised support that they need.

My Personal Health Journey

5 years ago, when my second son was born, I started to think about the future and decided that I wanted to be as healthy as possible for my children. I tried to ignore everything I thought I knew about a healthy diet and lifestyle (having received virtually no training about this during medical school or as a doctor) and instead started looking at the very latest scientific research. By following this scientific evidence, I was able to lose a significant amount of weight (which has stayed off), to reverse several health conditions and to stop all my medication. Importantly, I also started to feel better than I had for many years: more energy, better concentration and greatly improved mood.

Once I had seen for myself the power that simple lifestyle changes could have on my health it became more and more difficult to stick with the standard NHS approach and just watch other people gradually get sicker and sicker. Instead, I am determined to help people understand the power of diet and lifestyle changes in preventing and reversing long term conditions.
